Kickboxing Southport — Total Combat Martial Arts

Kids Kickboxing Classes in Southport

Kids kickboxing at our Southport gym is where children build confidence, burn off energy and learn to focus — all while having a brilliant time. Sessions are grouped by age so younger children and older kids each get activities pitched right for them, and every class is run by coaches who are as good with children as they are with technique. Families come to us from across Southport, Churchtown, Ainsdale, Birkdale and further afield in Crosby, Ormskirk and Formby, and the most common thing parents say is that they wish they had started their child sooner.

Classes run all year round, including through the school holidays, so your child keeps their routine, their friendships and their progress going without a long summer gap.

What kids get out of it

Kickboxing gives children far more than a way to burn off a Friday's worth of energy, though it certainly does that. Confidence grows as they master new skills and realise they can do hard things — quieter children especially tend to come out of their shells. Focus and discipline are built into every class through listening, taking turns and following instructions, and parents and teachers often notice the difference at home and at school.

Fitness comes naturally when training is this much fun; children get genuinely active without it ever feeling like a chore. Making friends is a huge part of it too — classes are sociable, supportive and full of encouragement, and many kids form their closest friendships on the mats. And perhaps most valuably, kickboxing teaches resilience: learning that getting something wrong, trying again and eventually nailing it is exactly how progress works. Those lessons stick for life.

Children's University credits

Here is something that sets our kids classes apart. Total Combat is a registered Children's University learning destination, which means the time your child spends training with us counts towards their Children's University journey. Every session earns Children's University credits — logged as Passport-to-Learning hours — which build up over time towards official Children's University graduation and awards.

It is a lovely way to recognise the effort children put in outside the classroom, and it gives them a tangible sense of achievement beyond the gym. Your child learns to kick, punch, focus and grow in confidence, and earns formal credit for doing it. Ask us how to get your child's Passport to Learning set up when you come in for the free trial.

How classes are structured

Every kids class is age-appropriate and built around a clear, safe routine that children quickly come to know and love. We open with a fun warm-up to get bodies moving and brains switched on, then move into a mix of games and drills that teach kickboxing skills without it ever feeling like a lecture — think pad work disguised as challenges, reaction games and plenty of friendly competition.

Skills are introduced step by step so children always feel a sense of progress, and our qualified coaches keep the energy high while holding firm, kind boundaries. Group sizes are managed so every child gets attention and nobody gets lost at the back. Because classes run the whole year through, holidays included, your child's learning carries on without the long breaks that so often undo good habits.

Safeguarding & safety

Your child's safety is non-negotiable. Our coaches are DBS-checked and trained to work with children, and classes take place in a controlled, supervised environment with clear rules about contact and behaviour. Kids work on pads and bags and through games — this is about skill, fitness and fun, not getting hurt. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and watch every session, and we encourage it. If you have any questions about safeguarding, just ask — we would far rather you felt completely comfortable.

Age groups & times

Classes are split by age so the content and energy suit each group. Exact days, times and age bands are listed on the classes and timetable page, and we can recommend the right session for your child when you get in touch. If you are unsure which group fits, just ask us — we will point you in the right direction.

Getting started

Getting your child started could not be simpler. For the first class they just need comfortable clothes they can move in and a water bottle — no special kit required to begin. The first class is completely free, so there is no commitment until you and your child are both sure it is a good fit. Common parent questions are answered on our FAQ page.
