Cardio Kickboxing in Southport — Fitness, Fun & Fat Loss

Cardio kickboxing is the workout people actually look forward to. It takes the punches, kicks and footwork of real kickboxing and turns them into a high-energy fitness class — relentless rounds on the pads and bags that get your heart pounding, your shoulders burning and the week's stress melting away. There is no contact and no sparring; nobody throws anything back at you. It is simply you, the equipment, a great playlist and a coach pushing you to dig a little deeper. It suits absolute beginners, people coming back to exercise after years away, and seasoned gym-goers who are bored of the treadmill alike.

Classes run year-round, including through every school holiday, so your routine never falls off a cliff in August or at Christmas.

What a class looks like

Every session follows a rhythm that keeps you moving and keeps you safe. We open with a dynamic warm-up — skipping, mobility and shadow-boxing — to raise your heart rate and loosen the joints. Then comes the heart of the class: bag and pad combinations, where you fire off jab-cross-hook sequences and kicks in timed rounds, working up a proper sweat. Between striking rounds we drop in conditioning bursts — squats, press-ups, core work and bodyweight intervals — to build strength and stoke the calorie burn.

You control the intensity throughout: hit harder and faster to push yourself, or ease off and focus on form when you need a breather. Coaches circulate constantly, tidying up technique so you get more out of every punch. We finish with a cool-down and stretch so you leave loose rather than seized up. Most people are surprised how quickly the hour flies by.

The benefits

Weight loss & calorie burn

A high-tempo cardio kickboxing class is one of the most efficient ways to burn calories going, combining sustained cardio with short, intense strength bursts. The afterburn effect means your body keeps working long after you have left the gym. Pair it with sensible eating and the results stack up week on week.

Full-body toning

Punching engages your shoulders, arms and back; kicking and pivoting fires your legs, glutes and hips; and bracing for every strike hammers your core. Unlike isolated machine work, kickboxing trains your whole body as one connected unit, which is why people notice their shape changing within a couple of months.

Cardio fitness

Round-based training is interval training in disguise. Your heart and lungs adapt fast, stairs stop leaving you puffed, and everyday energy climbs.

Stress relief & mental health

There is nothing quite like hitting a pad as hard as you can to dissolve a rotten day. The focus required leaves no room for the mental chatter, and the endorphin hit afterwards is genuine. Many members tell us the head benefits keep them coming back even more than the physical ones.

Confidence

Learning to move with intent and finishing rounds you did not think you could finish builds a quiet, durable confidence that carries well beyond the gym door.

No contact, no pressure

This is the bit that puts most newcomers at ease: in cardio kickboxing you will not get hit. There is no sparring and no partner trying to land punches — all your striking goes into pads and bags. You set your own intensity, you can stop for water whenever you need, and there is absolutely no expectation to push beyond what feels right on the day. It is a workout, not a fight.

It is also a genuinely mixed, friendly room. Women train alongside men in every class, and in a mixed fitness setting that is completely normal and works brilliantly — everyone is there for the same sweaty, satisfying hour.

Is it right for me?

If any of these sound like you, the answer is yes: you are a complete beginner who wants a non-intimidating way in; you are returning to exercise after a long gap and want something forgiving but effective; you are a busy parent who needs a real workout in a single focused hour; or you have weight-loss goals and want training you will actually stick to. Nervous about whether you are fit enough? Read our beginners guide — the short version is that the class scales to you, not the other way round.

Cardio or technique kickboxing — which should I pick?

If your priority is fitness, fat loss and feeling great, start with cardio kickboxing. If you want to learn to strike properly, defend, and maybe try light sparring down the line, the technique and padwork classes are your home. Many members do both — cardio for the burn, technique for the skill. You can compare every option on the classes and timetable page and switch freely.
